Frequently asked
Straight answers to the common questions.
If you cannot see what you need below, please telephone us. We would rather talk it through than leave you uncertain.
What do I do if someone has just died?
We are at the end of the phone on 020 XXXX XXXX, whenever you need us. If a death has occurred at home, we will talk you through what happens first, which depends on whether it was expected and whether a doctor has been. If it happened in hospital or a hospice, the staff there will guide you, and we can take over as soon as you are ready.
How much does a funeral cost?
Costs depend on the type of service. We give every family a written estimate before any work begins, so you know exactly what a funeral with us will cost. Please contact us for a quote. Our full Standardised Price List is also published on our pricing page and available in print in our office.
Do I have to come into the office to arrange a funeral?
No. We are glad to come to your home, anywhere in Camden or Islington, at a time that suits you. Many families find that easier than a formal meeting.
Can we have a non-religious or bespoke service?
Of course. We arrange religious services of every faith, humanist ceremonies, and gatherings with no formal service at all. The arrangement is entirely yours.
Are you open at the weekend?
We take calls twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year. Office visits outside standard hours can be arranged by phone.
Where are you based?
2 Brecknock Road, London N7 0DD, a short walk from Tufnell Park and Kentish Town stations. Free visitor parking is available nearby.
Which areas do you serve?
We cover all of Camden and Islington, including Kentish Town, Holloway, Tufnell Park, Highbury and Archway. We also arrange funerals elsewhere in London and across the UK when a family asks us to.
Can I visit my loved one in your chapel of rest?
Yes. Visits are arranged by appointment, free of charge, and you are welcome to spend as much time as you need. Family members of any age are welcome.
What paperwork will I need?
The main document is the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, which you will receive from the hospital or the GP. You will then register the death with the local registrar within five days. We will tell you exactly what to bring and can help you book the appointment.
Can I bring the coffin home the night before?
Yes, if you wish. We will deliver the coffin to your home at a time you choose and collect it again in the morning. Many families find this a meaningful part of saying goodbye.
Do you arrange repatriation abroad?
Yes. We handle every part of the process: embalming where required, documentation, consular paperwork, flights and onward transport at the destination.
Can I pay in instalments?
We can discuss a payment plan if needed, and we will always give you a clear written estimate before any commitment. Many families use the funds in the deceased's bank account, which can be released by the bank on receipt of the invoice.
Is there help available if the family cannot afford a funeral?
Yes. A Funeral Expenses Payment may be available from the Department for Work and Pensions for families on certain benefits, and a Public Health Funeral is available as a last resort through the local authority. We will tell you honestly what is likely to apply.
When you are ready, we are here.
We are at the end of the phone whenever you need us, and we answer every call ourselves. Or send a message and we will come back to you the same day.
